Health Matters – An A to Z Guide to Good Health – F is for Fish 🐟

Continuing the series of healthy foods we are at F for Fish a friend to health.  Love it or hate it fish is good for us, unfortunately, some people are allergic to fish and others hate the smell! However, fish can be an important ingredient for a healthy diet because it provides brain food and much more.

Research has confirmed that Omega 3 essential fatty acid contained in oily fish is beneficial for supporting and improving the developing brain of children. Many parents now give their children an Omega 3 supplement but choose carefully, the quality of the oil is important because fish oil can be contaminated with chemical pollutants.

Fish is an ideal food because it provides protein which is easily assimilated by the body and has many health benefits.

Many fish contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that help to reduce bad cholesterol and increase HDL the good cholesterol helping to protect against heart disease and strokes.

🐟 A 100g portion of fish will provide over a third of the protein required each day.

🐟 Most fish are rich in vitamin B12 which is important for the health of the nervous system.

🐟 Fish also contain iodine which is essential for healthy thyroid gland function.

🐟 Salmon is a good choice because it is a naturally oily fish and also contains vitamins A, B, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium.

Include fresh fish in your diet and enjoy the health benefits.

Live with joy and health. 💚
