G is for Grapes

G is for Grapes
G is for Grapes which Cheer up the Sick! 🍇

Grapes were traditionally given as a gift if you were visiting someone in hospital, someone sick or convalescing. In my family when I was a child, grapes were considered a special treat. Even today they still evoke that feeling of eating something special because they are so sweet and delicious. When my husband was alive, I had to hide them if we were having guests because he found them irresistible.

Black grapes are a nutrient-rich fruit containing vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and the phytochemical polyphenols and anthocyanins.

🍇 Grapes provide a good source of potassium which may help regulate blood pressure and help with water retention.

🍇 Grapes contain Vitamins K, B and Vitamin C which as we know helps improve our immune system important at this time of year.

🍇 Grapes contain the antioxidant resveratrol which may protect us against cancer by reducing inflammation and blocking cancer cell growth. They also contain catechins, quercetin and anthocyanins, which together act as a powerhouse of antioxidants.

🍇 Grapes can be eaten by diabetics as they contain fibre and are low to medium on the glycaemic index.

As you can see black grapes in particular have many health benefits. I always put a large bunch on my cheese board for dinner parties. They look lovely, appetising and also aid digestion.

Live with joy and health 💚
